Junior Middleweight: 2011, Nov 7-13
When #4 Alfredo Angulo put James Kirkland down in the first round, it looked like Kirkland was in for another short night. But this was a different, Ann Wolfe-inspired version of Kirkland, as he bounced back to return the favor late in what has to be the odds-on favorite for round of the year. In an all-action slugfest, Kirkland went on to gradually wear Angulo down with hard shots, great conditioning, and sheer power of will. Still game but thoroughly worn down, the action was finally stopped in the 6th for a huge upset TKO for Kirkland.

The movement bumps Erislandy Lara back to #4, and demotes everyone ranked #7 and below last week, including Austin Trout- who exits the top 10 after 21 weeks- and Antonio Margarito, who bows out of the top 20 after 7 weeks.

The Week Ahead: Friday in Lanus, Argentina, gatekeeper Sergio Sanders does battle with mid-level journeyman Mateo Veron. That same night, #11 Austin Trout takes on Australian gatekeeper-journeyman ‘tweener Frank LoPorto in El Paso, Texas.
Of course on Saturday, #15 Manny Pacquiao fights Juan Manuel Marquez in their 3rd meeting. This fight will be at Welter, though. The following day will be the anniversary of Pacquiao’s lone victory over a junior middleweight, and therefore he will be removed next week unless he shocks the world by scheduling a fight at this weight by then.
