You might not like his physique or his training habits or his style, but if he outfights the other guy, he still deserves to be respected as a winner at least as much as a disappointment. THE WEEK AHEAD: Friday #3 Alexander Povetkin vs. Manuel Charr; Moscow, Russia; TV Unknown We’re still sorta trying to find Charr’s level. He had little trouble with gatekeeper-level guys like Airich and Kevin Johnson, but fell flat against the true top-shelf of the division in the form of Vitali Klitschko. Povetkin is closer to the latter than he is to the former, but it’s still a level of performance we can’t quite predict with accuracy either way for Charr. Povetkin has only lost to Wlad, and has beaten by far the better competition of the two. In summary though, this is a battle of two guys who have won at at least the top 50 level at least a couple times, neither of whom have ever lost to anyone not named Klitschko. Worth a look.
#20 Francesco Pianeta vs. Mickael Vieira; Dresden, Germany; TV Unknown This is 100% a stay-busy fight for Pianeta. Vieira is I guess a lower mid-level journeyman, who you’d probably have to say leans more toward the low end of that spectrum considering he’s lost twice to guys with losing records.
