Junior Middleweight: 2013, May 27- Jun 2

On Friday Night Fights this week, we saw a fight that simultaneously made me lose all faith in boxing officiating (for the thousandth time), and yet renewed my hope.

Gatekeeper Freddy Hernandez came out aggressive and more often than not, completely took the play away from #11 Delvin Rodriguez.  When the fight was called due to a Hernandez cut in the 8th, it was clear that Hernandez had either won 5 rounds to 3 (my scoring), or at worst secured a draw.  Tom Schreck (who had blatantly robbed an undefeated prospect on the undercard) managed to redeem himself a bit by scoring it a reasonable 76-76.  But the other two…ugh.  Tom Carasone- who ironically was the only one that got it anywhere near reasonable in the aforementioned undercard fight- had it 77-75 for Rodriguez, and yet managed not to be the worst.  On a night of bad scorecards, Kevin Morgan took top honors, making a mockery of his profession by scoring it 6 rounds to 2 for the wrong guy.  The guy is a joke.  Thankfully, the scorecards were rendered irrelevant when the Connecticut commission used instant replay to accurately determine that the fight-ending cut was caused by a Rodriguez punch rather than a headbutt.  So rather than an absolutely ridiculous decision win for Rodriguez, it was a correct (if fluky) TKO win for him.  Either way, the officials apparently had his back.

So Rodriguez managed to pull one out of the fire, which keeps his ranking from taking a dive.  But even giving full credit to the TKO win despite its less than convincing nature, it’s not enough to get him past Rabchenko and into the top 10.  No changes this week.

Dan’s Top 20 (Weeks in Current Position-Weeks in Top 10 if applicable-Weeks in Top 20)
Champ: None
1) Carlos Molina (17-99-114)
Last Fight: 2/1/2013- UD12 #11 Cory Spinks
Next Fight: Unknown
Ishe Smith says he plans to offer Molina a shot at his alphabet belt, and has since reported that the fight is almost signed.
2) Saul Alvarez (17-117-132)
Last Fight: 4/20/2013- W* (UD12) vs. #3 Austin Trout
Next Fight: Unknown
Canelo wants Floyd next.  That fight had already appeared set for September up until a few weeks before he fought Trout.  Floyd says he wants the fight at 147, which might be a big ask of Alvarez at this point.
3) Austin Trout (14-52-121)
Last Fight: 4/20/2013- L* (UD12) vs. #2 Saul Alvarez
Next Fight: Unknown
Trout wants a rematch of his very dubious loss to Alvarez.  He certainly deserves it.
4) Erislandy Lara (14-99-121)
Last Fight: 11/10/2012- D* (TD9) vs. #15 Vanes Martirosyan (robbery- should be win)
Next Fight: 6/8/2013- vs. #8 Alfredo Angulo
Lara will fight Angulo on Showtime, June 8 in Carson, California.
5) Ishe Smith (14-14-14)
Last Fight: 2/23/2013- W (MD12) vs. #3 Cornelius Bundrage
Next Fight: Unknown
See Molina’s notes, above.
6) Miguel Cotto (4-156-156)
Last Fight: 12/1/2012- L (UD12) vs. #8 Austin Trout
Next Fight: Unknown
Cotto has laid out the plans for the rest of his career.  He says he’ll fight in October or November, twice in 2014, and then retire.
7) Cornelius Bundrage (4-147-147)
Last Fight: 2/23/2013- L (MD12) vs. Ishe Smith (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Bundrage should probably retire after how awful he looked against Smith.
8) Alfredo Angulo (4-192-192)
Last Fight: 12/15/2012- UD10 Jorge Silva (UNR)
Next Fight: 6/8/2013- vs. #4 Erislandy Lara
After it looked for awhile that he might fight Rosado next, Angulo will instead battle #4 Lara in Carson, California in early June.
9) Gabriel Rosado (4-10-121)
Last Fight: 5/4/2013- L* (SD10) vs. J’Leon Love (UNR) (at MW)
Next Fight: Unknown
In addition to the fight result barely being credible to begin with, it turns out Love was on a banned diuretic that helped him make weight at 160 (which he managed to do only by the skin of his teeth).  Most likely this will end up as a no-contest, thus adding even more reasons for me to not hold it against Rosado’s ranking at 154.
10) Sergey Rabchenko (4-4-50)
Last Fight: 3/30/2013- KO2 Adriano Nicchi (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Rabchenko might be fighting Italian prospect Emanuele Della Rosa on July 13 in Monaco.
11) Delvin Rodriguez (4-98)
Last Fight: 5/24/2013- TKO8 Freddy Hernandez (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Rodriguez got a cuts stoppage over a guy that was beating him, but the judges had his back in case he needed their help.
12) Lukas Konecny (4-94)
Last Fight: 3/23/2013- W (TD12) vs. Karim Achour (UNR) (at MW)
Next Fight: Unknown
13) Keith Thurman (4-27)
Last Fight: 3/9/2013- UD12 #? WW Jan Zaveck (at WW)
Next Fight: Unknown Date- vs. Diego Chaves (UNR) (at WW)
Thurman will be back on either July 20 or 27 against undefeated Argentine prospect Diego Chaves, again at Welterweight.
14) Vanes Martirosyan (4-104)
Last Fight: 11/10/2012- D* (TD9) vs. #6 Erislandy Lara (robbery- should be L)
Next Fight: Unknown
Martirosyan was set to fight Javier Maciel on April 6 in China, but broke his thumb.
15) Yuri Foreman (4-18)
Last Fight: 4/6/2013- UD6 Gundrick King (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Foreman is keeping his comeback at a very low level for the time being.
16) Sechew Powell (4-167)
Last Fight: 6/1/2012- L (TKO9) vs. #10 Gabriel Rosado
Next Fight: Unknown
17) Willie Nelson (4-13)
Last Fight: 3/1/2013- TKO1 Michael Medina (UNR)
Next Fight: 6/29/2013- vs. Luciano Cuello (UNR)
Nelson finally has an opponent for 6/29- decent Argentine journeyman Luciano Cuello.
18) Brian Rose (4-10)
Last Fight: 4/20/2013- TKO12 Joachim Alcine (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Rose has officially vacated his British title.
19) Guido Pitto (4-5)
Last Fight: 4/27/2013- W* (SD12) vs. Jack Culcay (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
It took an “upset” over highly-touted prospect Culcay for Pitto to get the recognition he earned but was denied against Veron.
20) Jack Culcay (4-4)
Last Fight: 4/27/2013- L* (SD12) vs. Guido Pitto (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Most see Culcay’s squeaker of a loss to Pitto to be a major setback in his career.  Not I.  First, he barely lost it, if at all.  Second, he held his own with a true and more proven fringe contender, who was underrated due to a robbery.

The Week Ahead:  Nothing going on this week.

Junior Middleweight: 2013, May 20-26

Both of the favorites on Saturday came out on top.  In London, undefeated prospect Larry Ekundayo moved to 6-0 against more experienced yet less advanced French prospect Howard Cospolite, winning all but one round in the opinion of the referee and sole judge.

Across the pond in Atlantic City, undefeated prospect Shawn Porter looked pretty spectacular against the slow but durable Phil Lo Greco.  His speed, quickness, and footwork are all clearly top-notch.  I gave him every round, plus knockdowns he scored in rounds 8 and 10.  Lo Greco may have nicked round 3, but that’s splitting hairs.

No changes.

The Week Ahead:  #11 Delvin Rodriguez returns on Friday Night Fights this week, taking on gatekeeper Freddy Hernandez in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Junior Middleweight: 2013, Jan 28- Feb 3

Posted in Junior Middleweight, Rankings with tags , , , , , , , on June 11, 2013 by danboxing
Yuri Foreman returned on Wednesday from virtual retirement, shutting out novice Missouri journeyman Brandon Baue over 6 rounds.  This is enough to make Foreman active at 154 again, and his streak of impressive performances from ’08 and ’09 (culminating with a dominant decision over an 8th-ranked Daniel Santos) is enough to regain him a ranking at #17, driving Brian Rose out of his #20 spot after 60 consecutive weeks in the rankings.

Demetrius Andrade was in action against gatekeeper Freddy Hernandez on Friday, picking up a nice win on ShoBox by dominating that fight.  The problem?  He missed the contracted weight of 154 by a half-pound, and as such he still has never had a significant win while weighing 154 or less.  He is therefore still technically not eligible for a ranking at this weight.  Unfortunately for him, the fight also has no effect on his 160 ranking, since his opponent did make weight.  This fight will be worth something should he ever get an eligible win, but on its own, it is completely worthless for rankings purposes.

Meanwhile, fellow undefeated Jermell Charlo did manage to get his first significant win at the weight, dropping gatekeeper Harry Joe Yorgey 3 times in dominating and ultimately scoring an 8th-round knockout.

Foreman’s return and the resulting shift is the only change this week.

Mundine’s next fight will be against top Middleweight contender Daniel Geale on January 30, in Sydney.

The Week Ahead: The week’s key fight is on Friday in Chicago, where #2 Carlos Molina meets #11 Cory Spinks in a fight that will either reinforce the status quo or cause a major shake-up, depending on who wins.

The ESPN2-televised undercard features former star Jose Luis Castillo- now a welterweight gatekeeper who roughly translates to a borderline top-50 fighter at 154, as well- against gatekeeper Antwone Smith.  To be honest, I’m not 100% sure if this will be contested at 147 or 154, or somewhere in between.  Smith was slated for a fight at 147 in his last fight, but failed to make weight.

On Saturday, Japanese welterweight prospect Yoshihiro Kamegai ventures to a junior middleweight contract weight for his stay-busy fight with low-level Mexican journeyman Jose Alberto Leal in Tokyo.

#20 Anthony Mundine is also in action, but since he’s in a middleweight fight, I’ll only mention it here to the extent it affects the 154 rankings, if at all.

Junior Middleweight: 2013, Jan 21-27

Gabriel Rosado gave it a great effort on Saturday, but was outsized and outgunned by #3 middleweight Gennady Golovkin, and was stopped in the 7th.  This likely would not have damaged Rosado’s standing much even had Golovkin been a junior middleweight, and certainly won’t hurt Rosado after moving up.  No changes.

The Week Ahead: Yuri Foreman is set to return on Wednesday after nearly 2 years on the shelf.  He battles Missouri journeyman Brandon Baue in a 6-rounder in New York.  If he makes weight at 154, he’ll be reconsidered for a ranking, though it might be tough after so much time has passed.

Friday on ShoBox, #16 Middleweight Demetrius Andrade comes back down to his natural weight to battle gatekeeper Freddy Hernandez in Huntington, New York.

Saturday in Vegas, undefeated prospect Jermell Charlo gets his toughest test yet against Pennsylvania gatekeeper Harry Joe Yorgey on the Matthysse-Dallas undercard.

Junior Middleweight: 2012, Jul 2-8

#3 Cornelius Bundrage defended his alphabet title with a rematch against #11 Cory Spinks in Indio, California on Saturday.  The fight went mostly according to script.  Spinks held his own with his boxing skill than was the case in their 2010 fight, which was a one-sided beating from start to finish.  He managed to nab a couple rounds against the crude mauling style of Bundrage, but ultimately he lost by TKO in the 7th round for the same reason he lost a couple rounds earlier the first time around.  He simply couldn’t handle the strength and power of Bundrage enough to keep him off and make it a boxing match.  Bundrage closed the show impressively with 3 knockdowns in the final round.

On the undercard, #6 Erislandy Lara went the distance with prospect/gatekeeper ‘tweener Freddy Hernandez, mostly dominating the fight.  Hernandez won the 3rd round- which Lara appeared to take off- but clearly lost everything else.  This despite the fact that Lara fought a more amateur style than he did in his most recent notable fight against Williams (or certainly his destruction of Ronald Hearns).  After all, Lara was one hell of an amateur.  Judge Thomas Taylor didn’t notice the round that Hernandez clearly won, only taking off one point, as mandated by the referee for a rather dirty Lara headbutt.  Fritz Werner was dead-on at 98-91, while David Denkin was atrociously and suspendably bad at 95-94.  Both guys were a hair over the junior middleweight limit.  This isn’t a big deal in terms of how the fight will affect the two fighters rankings, except that Lara will not have made said limit for a year as of the end of this week.  In keeping with my established rules, he has bought himself an additional 6 months to make weight by missing it by less than 2 pounds.

Despite 2 important fights going down, the fact that both went as expected means in this case that no changes will occur in the rankings.  Spinks risked only his health by rematching Bundrage, since he had already lost to a much more lightly regarded version, and the loss does not change the fact that he still has a better resume than #12 Sergey Rabchenko.  Bundrage’s reinforcement of his earlier win over a more highly-regarded version of Spinks likewise is not sufficient to propel him past Molina, who has defeated or clearly deserved to defeat a #3 and #7 contender in his last two major fights.

Last Fight: 5/5/2012- UD12 Shane Mosley (UNR)
Next Fight: 9/15/2012- vs. Unknown Opponent
After Josesito Lopez upset Victor Ortiz, Alvarez is looking for a fourth scheduled opponent for his 9/15 date.  Trout and Quintana are being considered, and it also may be possible that Lopez could be asked to move up 2 weight classes over his natural weight, as well.  There are also rumors of Marcos Maidana, who himself only recently moved up to 147.
2) Carlos Molina (9-52-67)
Last Fight: 3/23/2012- L*(DQ10) vs. #3 James Kirkland (Robbery)

3) Cornelius Bundrage (15-100-100)
Last Fight: 6/30/2012- TKO7 #11 Cory Spinks

4) Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (9-9-9)
Last Fight: 5/5/2012- UD12* #4 Miguel Cotto
Next Fight: Unknown
Floyd says he’s considering retirement after a tough fight with Cotto.  But more recently, future fights against Pacquiao, Canelo, Khan, Cotto, Guerrero, and Ortiz have been mentioned.  Of course Floyd is now in jail.

Last Fight: 6/30/2012- UD10 Freddy Hernandez (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Lara dominated Hernandez, and should be looking to follow up his Williams win with other guys on that level.
7) James Kirkland (9-35-35)
Last Fight: 3/24/2012- W*(DQ10) vs. #6 Carlos Molina (Robbery)
Next Fight: Unknown
Kirkland bailed almost immediately on a fight he signed with Canelo, and says he plans to return in October or November.
8) Austin Trout (5-5-74)
Last Fight: 6/2/2012- UD12 #13 Delvin Rodriguez
Next Fight: Unknown
Trout is among those being considered to tangle with Canelo on 9/15, but the WBC is trying to shoot down that excellent alphabet unification fight.
9) Alfredo Angulo (5-145-145)
Last Fight: 11/5/2011- L (TKO6) vs. James Kirkland (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Troubling news.  Angulo has been detained by US authorities since at least January.  Apparently his only crime was being here on an expired Visa.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m in favor of enforcing immigration laws, but to lock a guy up for months on end without so much as a trial?  Awful.  We’re rooting for you, Perro.
10) Gabriel Rosado (6-6-74)
Last Fight: 6/1/2013- TKO9 #19 Sechew Powell
Next Fight: Unknown
Rosado still wants Canelo, though Canelo isn’t considering him as an option at present.
11) Cory Spinks (3-23)
Last Fight: 6/30/2012- L (TKO7) vs. #3 Cornelius Bundrage
Next Fight: Unknown
Spinks failed to revenge his ugly 2010 TKO loss to Bundrage, but managed to look a little better and capture a round or two this time.
12) Sergey Rabchenko (3-3)
Last Fight: 6/16/2012- TKO7 #11 Ryan Rhodes
Next Fight: Unknown
Rabchenko is likely to defend his European title against France’s Cedric Vitu in his next fight.

14) Vanes Martirosyan (4-57)
Last Fight: 2/4/2012- TKO3 Troy Lowry (UNR)
Next Fight: 7/7/2012- vs. Ryan Davis (UNR)
Vanes’ pointless scheduled fight with journeyman Ryan Davis is in doubt, as he now says (against his normal character) that he’d like to go direct to a fight with Canelo.
15) Lukas Konecny (4-47)
Last Fight: 4/5/2012- TKO7 Salim Larbi (UNR)

Next Fight: Unknown
19) Brian Rose (3-31)
Last Fight: 6/2/2012- W* (UD12) vs. Kris Carslaw (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Rose’s reign as British Champion hasn’t been the greatest- partly due to limited available opposition, and partly due to his own awful performance against Carslaw.
20) Roberto Garcia (3-4)
Last Fight: 3/23/2012- UD10 Antwone Smith (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown

The Week Ahead: #14 Vanes Martirosyan may or may not be fighting journeyman Ryan Davis in Carson, California on Saturday’s Pavlik-Rosinsky undercard.  He has expressed interest in skipping the pointless fight and concentrating on a possible 9/15 challenge of Canelo, who is currently in search of a new opponent.

More or less simultaneously and just a half-hour away in Costa Mesa, Jesus Soto Karass gets a showcase opportunity against Dominican journeyman (or more generously, fringe prospect) Euri Gonzalez.  Gonzalez has two losses, but they came against an up-and-coming Saul Alvarez and an undefeated prospect.

The Week Ahead: In a Saturday doubleheader in Indio, California, #3 Cornelius Bundrage will look to repeat his fantastic and punishing performance against #11 Cory Spinks in a rematch of that pair’s 2010 match.

On the undercard, #6 Erislandy Lara takes on gatekeeper/prospect hybrid Freddy Hernandez in a 10-rounder.

Junior Middleweight: 2011, Oct 17-23

Undefeated Polish prospect Damian Jonak dominated former contender and current journeyman Alex Bunema in Katowice, Poland on Saturday, winning by shutout on 2 of the 3 cards.  Later that evening, welterweight-junior middle tweener and gatekeeper Freddy Hernandez managed to rebound from his recent 1st round knockout loss to Andre Berto with a fight against former fringe contender Luis Collazo on the Hopkins-Dawson undercard in LA, but he didn’t exactly dominate, winning by unanimous scores of 96-93, despite scoring an 8th round knockdown.  No changes to the rankings.

Dan’s Top 20 (Weeks in Current Position-Weeks in Top 10 if applicable-Weeks in Top 20)
Champ: None
1) Saul Alvarez (18-33-48)
Last Fight: 9/17/2011- TKO6 Alfonso Gomez (UNR)
Next Fight: 11/26/2011- vs. Kermit Cintron (UNR)

2) Cornelius Bundrage (18-63-63)
Last Fight: 6/25/2011- UD12 #11 Sechew Powell
Next Fight: Unknown
DeAndre Latimore is K9’s mandatory, but K9 appears to prefer a voluntary next.  He has called out Canelo, Mosley, and Molina, and his promoter Don King is apparently working on a fight with Ricardo Mayorga for January, though the IBF reportedly is not willing to sanction that fight for Bundrage’s title.
3) Erislandy Lara (15-15-37)
Last Fight: 7/9/2011- L*(MD12) vs. #6 Paul Williams
Next Fight: Unknown
With most of the big names at 154 apparently not all that excited about fighting him, Lara recently challenged Dmitry Pirog at middleweight.
4) Alfredo Angulo (15-108-108)
Last Fight: 8/20/2011- KO1 Joe Gomez (UNR)
Next Fight: 11/5/2012- vs. James Kirkland (UNR)
After several weeks of speculation, it’s now set: Angulo will face James Kirkland on November 5 in Cancun, in what appears to be an eliminator for a fight with Canelo.
5) Miguel Cotto (15-72-72)
Last Fight: 3/12/2011- TKO12 Ricardo Mayorga (UNR)
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #20 Antonio Margarito (UNR)
The Margarito fight will be at a 153-pound catchweight for some reason, and will take place at Madison Square Garden.
6) Carlos Molina (15-15-30)
Last Fight: 7/9/2011- UD10 #7 Kermit Cintron
Next Fight: Unknown
Had absolutely no trouble with the highly-ranked Cintron, and now he or his promoter have challenged basically everybody: Lara, Cotto, Canelo, Trout, K9, Dzinziruk, Paul Williams, and Mike Jones.
7) Prince Arron (14-23-23)
Last Fight: 5/13/2011- TKO12 #14 Sam Webb
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. Brian Rose (UNR)
Arron takes on one-loss and still relatively untested prospect Brian Rose in Wigan, England in early December.
8) Pawel Wolak (14-32-32)
Last Fight: 7/15/2011- Draw (MD10) vs. Delvin Rodriguez (UNR)
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #13 Delvin Rodriguez
Wolak will fight Rodriguez on the Cotto-Margarito undercard in a rematch of their fight of the year candidate from July.
9) Ryan Rhodes (14-104-104)
Last Fight: 6/18/2011- L(UD12) vs. #8 Saul Alvarez
Next Fight: Unknown
Rhodes’ stock is significantly diminished after being dominated by Alvarez, but he still has a solid resume and remains in the top 10.
10) Austin Trout (19-19-37)
Last Fight: 6/11/2011- UD12 David Lopez (UNR)
Next Fight: 11/11/2012- vs. Frank LaPorto (UNR)
Trout was briefly set to fight Yuki Nonaka, but a hand injury has led to the essentially lateral move to another solid journeyman in Australia’s Frank LoPorto.  The fight will be televised on ShoBox.
11) Sechew Powell (19-83)
Last Fight: 6/25/2011- L(UD12) vs. #3 Cornelius Bundrage
Next Fight: Unknown
After Latimore turned down an eliminator for a Bundrage shot, Powell will instead be taking on Cory Spinks for that honor, it would appear.  The fight may land on the Mares-Agbeko undercard on December 3.
12) Gabriel Rosado (19-37)
Last Fight: 9/9/2011- UD10 Keenan Collins (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Rosado had little trouble with the low-level challenge of Collins.
13) Delvin Rodriguez (14-14)
Last Fight: 7/15/2011- Draw (MD10) vs. #7 Pawel Wolak
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #8 Pawel Wolak
See Wolak’s notes, above.
14) Manny Pacquiao (14-37)
Last Fight: 5/7/2011- UD12 #15 Shane Mosley (at WW)
Next Fight: 11/12/2011- vs. LW Champ Juan Manuel Marquez (at WW)
Pacquiao had already nearly finished signing a fight with lightweight champion and rival Juan Manuel Marquez before the Mosley debacle even went down.  Unfortunately the talk is that the fight will be at a 144-pound catchweight.  This fight is a natural for 140 pounds, but Pacquiao wants to drag Marquez up because he has the proven ability to carry the weight better than the lightweight.  It’s a damn shame, because this could have been a good challenge at the right weight.
15) Paul Williams (14-37)
Last Fight: 7/9/2011- W*(MD12) vs. #17 Erislandy Lara (Robbery)
Next Fight: Unknown
Williams’ promoter wants to see him fight an orthodox fighter next, but it’s increasingly likely that won’t be until 2012.
16) Vanes Martirosyan (5-20)
Last Fight: 6/4/2011- TKO7 Saul Roman (UNR)
Next Fight: 10/29/2011- vs. Richard Gutierrez (UNR)
After turning down Angulo, Vanes is set to fight gatekeeper Richard Gutierrez in Thackerville, OK on October 29.
17) Yuri Foreman (5-107)
Last Fight: 3/12/2011- L (RTD6) vs. Pawel Wolak (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Foreman’s career currently hangs in the balance, and he reportedly is not sure whether or not to continue fighting.
18) Lukas Konecny (5-10)
Last Fight: 5/27/2011- UD12 Hussein Bayram (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
With Dzinziruk sidelined with an injury, the WBO is set to order a fight between Konecny and Zaurbek Baysangurov.
19) Deandre Latimore (5-9)
Last Fight: 4/16/2011- UD8 Dennis Sharpe (UNR) (at MW)
Next Fight: Unknown
The IBF proposed an eliminator between Latimore and Sechew Powell, but the former says he has no interest in that fight.
20) Antonio Margarito (5-5)
Last Fight: 11/13/2010- L(UD12) vs. #1 WW Manny Pacquiao
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #5 Miguel Cotto
Re-match with Miguel Cotto on the horizon.

The Week Ahead:  #10 Middleweight Anthony Mundine of Australia drops down a division to fight Mexican fringe contender Rigoberto Alvarez in Newcastle, Australia on Wednesday.

Saturday in the boxing Mecca of New Town, South Dakota, Minnesota’s Andy Kolle stays busy against low-level journeyman James Wayka.

Last Fight: 9/17/2011- TKO6 Alfonso Gomez (UNR)
Next Fight: 11/26/2011- vs. Kermit Cintron (UNR)
Canelo will look to take advantage of apparently shot fringe contender Kermit Cintron on November 26 in Mexico.
2) Cornelius Bundrage (17-62-62)
Last Fight: 6/25/2011- UD12 #11 Sechew Powell
Next Fight: Unknown
DeAndre Latimore is K9’s mandatory, but K9 appears to prefer a voluntary next.  He has called out Canelo, Mosley, and Molina, and his promoter Don King is apparently working on a fight with Ricardo Mayorga for January, though the IBF reportedly is not willing to sanction that fight for Bundrage’s title.
3) Erislandy Lara (14-14-36)
Last Fight: 7/9/2011- L*(MD12) vs. #6 Paul Williams
Next Fight: Unknown
Lara wrote an open letter offering Williams a rematch, but no word from Paul yet.  Lara has also sought fights with Dzinziruk and Bundrage, neither of whom appear to want the fight.  He also wants Canelo, but believes that Golden Boy will protect their cash cow.
4) Alfredo Angulo (14-107-107)
Last Fight: 8/20/2011- KO1 Joe Gomez (UNR)
Next Fight: 5/5/2012- vs. James Kirkland (UNR)
After several weeks of speculation, it’s now set: Angulo will face James Kirkland on May 5 in Cancun, in what appears to be an eliminator for a fight with Canelo.
5) Miguel Cotto (14-71-71)
Last Fight: 3/12/2011- TKO12 Ricardo Mayorga (UNR)
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #20 Antonio Margarito (UNR)
The Margarito fight will be at a 153-pound catchweight for some reason, and will take place at Madison Square Garden.
6) Carlos Molina (14-14-29)
Last Fight: 7/9/2011- UD10 #7 Kermit Cintron
Next Fight: Unknown
Had absolutely no trouble with the highly-ranked Cintron, and now he or his promoter have challenged basically everybody: Lara, Cotto, Canelo, Trout, K9, Dzinziruk, Paul Williams, and Mike Jones.
7) Prince Arron (13-22-22)
Last Fight: 5/13/2011- TKO12 #14 Sam Webb
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. Brian Rose (UNR)
Arron takes on one-loss and still relatively untested prospect Brian Rose in Wigan, England in early December.
8) Pawel Wolak (13-31-31)
Last Fight: 7/15/2011- Draw (MD10) vs. Delvin Rodriguez (UNR)
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #13 Delvin Rodriguez
Wolak will fight Rodriguez on the Cotto-Margarito undercard in a rematch of their fight of the year candidate from July.
9) Ryan Rhodes (13-103-103)
Last Fight: 6/18/2011- L(UD12) vs. #8 Saul Alvarez
Next Fight: Unknown
Rhodes’ stock is significantly diminished after being dominated by Alvarez, but he still has a solid resume and remains in the top 10.
10) Austin Trout (18-18-36)
Last Fight: 6/11/2011- UD12 David Lopez (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Trout will very likely be fighting Yuki Nonaka November 11 on ShoBox.
11) Sechew Powell (18-82)
Last Fight: 6/25/2011- L(UD12) vs. #3 Cornelius Bundrage
Next Fight: Unknown
The IBF has ordered an eliminator trilogy fight with Latimore, with the winner to face Bundrage for the belt.  But Latimore says he’s not interested.  Theoretically, that should mean that Powell will be able to fight K9 without the eliminator, or else he’ll fight someone else to earn the shot.
12) Gabriel Rosado (18-36)
Last Fight: 9/9/2011- UD10 Keenan Collins (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Rosado had little trouble with the low-level challenge of Collins.
13) Delvin Rodriguez (13-13)
Last Fight: 7/15/2011- Draw (MD10) vs. #7 Pawel Wolak
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #8 Pawel Wolak
See Wolak’s notes, above.
14) Manny Pacquiao (13-36)
15) Paul Williams (13-36)
Last Fight: 7/9/2011- W*(MD12) vs. #17 Erislandy Lara (Robbery)
Next Fight: Unknown
Williams’ promoter wants to see him fight an orthodox fighter next, but it’s increasingly likely that won’t be until 2012.
16) Vanes Martirosyan (4-19)
Last Fight: 6/4/2011- TKO7 Saul Roman (UNR)
Next Fight: 10/29/2011- vs. Richard Gutierrez (UNR)
After turning down Angulo, Vanes is set to fight gatekeeper Richard Gutierrez in Thackerville, OK on October 29.
17) Yuri Foreman (4-106)
Last Fight: 3/12/2011- L (RTD6) vs. Pawel Wolak (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
Foreman’s career currently hangs in the balance, and he reportedly is not sure whether or not to continue fighting.
18) Lukas Konecny (4-9)
Last Fight: 5/27/2011- UD12 Hussein Bayram (UNR)
Next Fight: Unknown
With Dzinziruk sidelined with an injury, the WBO is set to order a fight between Konecny and Zaurbek Baysangurov.
19) Deandre Latimore (4-8)
Last Fight: 4/16/2011- UD8 Dennis Sharpe (UNR) (at MW)
Next Fight: Unknown
The IBF proposed an eliminator between Latimore and Sechew Powell, but the former says he has no interest in that fight.
20) Antonio Margarito (4-4)
Last Fight: 11/13/2010- L(UD12) vs. #1 WW Manny Pacquiao
Next Fight: 12/3/2011- vs. #5 Miguel Cotto
Re-match with Miguel Cotto on the horizon.

The Week Ahead:  Two significant fights on Saturday:
